Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 March 2026
Scout ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Scout, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. By using Scout, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you create an account or use Scout:
- Account information — your name, email address, and profile picture, provided by Google or Facebook when you sign in via OAuth. We do not collect or store your social media passwords.
- Profile information — any additional details you choose to add, such as a display name or service listings.
- Activity data — job requests, bids, matches, messages, and ratings you create on the Platform.
- Usage data — basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, collected automatically to keep the Platform secure and functional.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your Scout account.
- Display your profile to other users as part of the marketplace experience.
- Facilitate connections, matches, and in-app messaging between users.
- Send you notifications about activity on your account (e.g. new bids, messages).
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms and Conditions.
- Improve and maintain the Platform.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Sign-In (OAuth)
Scout uses Google and Facebook OAuth to authenticate users. When you sign in via one of these providers, we receive only the data you have authorised — typically your name, email address, and profile picture. We do not receive access to your social media posts, contacts, or any other account data beyond what is needed to create your Scout account.
Your use of Google or Facebook sign-in is also subject to their respective privacy policies.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secured servers hosted in data centres with industry-standard physical and technical safeguards. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data in transit and apply access controls to limit who within our team can access your data.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform. If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or preventing fraud).
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your account and associated personal data.
- Withdraw consent for data processing at any time, which will result in termination of your account.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected] or visit our data deletion page.
7. Cookies
Scout uses session cookies and local storage to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent you from signing in.
8. Children
Scout is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version will always be available at this URL, with the effective date updated accordingly. Continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at [email protected].
